LonMark Members who manufacture products used in Open Systems

LonMark Certification Overview

One of LonMark International's key objectives is to provide the standards necessary for our members to deliver open, integrated control systems in the most economically way possible. We strive to ensure owners are getting the best possible systems with the most flexibility and highest level of quality. To that end, LonMark has two separate certification programs to ensure the market has the best available.

Product Certification
The core of an open system is one in which the devices from multiple manufacturers can “plug-and-play” or “interoperate” with each other on the same network, at the same time, without the need for costly gateways. LonMark’s Interoperability Guidelines and their related international standards define the requirements for manufacturers. Once a manufacturer has developed a product, they are required to get that product tested via LonMark’s testing certification program. If the device complies with the standards and passes the test, the vendor is permitted to display the LonMark logo and claim certification. Note: there is no such thing as “LonMark Compatible” or “LonMark Compliant”; either the product is tested and certified or it is not.

To date LonMark International has certified close to 700 LonMark Certified Products, and new products are continually added to our online product catalog. We encourage any specifier of systems to require full certification of all application specific devices. New profiles and certifications are part of the LonMark’s technical committee efforts and are in a constant state of enhancement with the goal to ensure the broadest mix of products can be successfully and easily integrated into one system.

Trust the LonMark Logo and certification to ensure that all products in a system will interoperate in the most efficient way possible. For more information on LonMark Product Certification, visit the Device Certification section.

Professional Certification
In order to ensure that a system is installed correctly; we need good, qualified, trained professional installers and integrators. LonMark has recently launched the LonMark Professional Certification initiative. It is a program to deliver a comprehensive professional testing program, setting a world wide standard of proficiency. There are three levels of certifications planned and addition expert level exams being considered:

  • Professional – targeted at the system engineer, designer, and integrator.
  • Installer – targeted at the field technician, electrical contractor, and mechanical contractor.
  • Integrator – targeted at integration companies that employ one or more professionals and have additional expertise and commitment to open LON systems.

The LonMark Professional Certification testing is open to any industry professional wishing to enhance their credentials. System specifiers are encouraged to require the integration contractors they hire to have certified credential professionals on staff. This ensures that the team working on the project is highly trained and is proficient. Professional Certification is valid for 3 years, at which time candidates are required to renew their credentials.

lhbThe tests are offered in secured, proctored environments. The exams will be available in several languages and testing centers will be available internationally. There are resource materials available for those wishing to brush up on their knowledge; however, we highly recommend hands on training prior to sitting for the exam.
