Truly Open, Interoperable Systems
An Open System uses industry standard network services for design, installation, and commissioning of devices. An Open System does not include proprietary vertical sub-system implementations. An Open System does not require gateways, although gateways may be used to connect legacy systems. And finally, an Open System contains interoperable, interchangeable devices from multiple manufacturers…or in other words: LonMark Certified Products.
To LonMark International, there is no such thing as compliant and compatible. Only products that carry the LonMark logo have been certified to adhere to the LonMark interoperability guidelines and can be used with confidence in integrated control systems. The LonMark logo or presence in the LonMark product database of certified products are the indication that a product can be easily linked with other products in a multi-vendor network.

Example of flat, open network architecture
LonMark products give you the flexibility to mix and match LonWorks® control devices on the same control network.
You’re no longer locked into a single supplier. All LonMark products have been designed to interoperate over a LonWorks control network and are easy to install using your choice of installation tool from any of the third party LonMark tool suppliers.
